February Member of the Month - Michelle McLaren

   Michelle McLaren

.
Michelle loves nothing more than a deep breath of quiet peacefulness, a brush, and an idea that beckons conception. Coffee helps, too. Most recently, inspiration has been forthcoming from birds, bugs, and various little creatures. Watercolor is her current medium with oils, acrylics, and even digital photography having previously been part of her work.  She lives in charming Owego, NY with her husband, 3 daughters, and a bunch of pets. Michelle loves traveling, spending time with her family, and reading a good book .

January Member of the Month - Kristine Willauer

   Kristine Willauer

.
Kristine discovered the versatility of resin after a hiatus from art. She loves the idea of looseness and abstraction with in a structured shape and thus discovered resin as the perfect medium from which to work. Looking closely at the environment around her, the small, tiny details that go unnoticed normally became larger than life. She loves playing with materials, shape and colors.

Kristine began developing other worlds for the viewer to lose themselves in. Whether in her paintings or resin works, each piece is meant to be different with each view, with each change of an angle, with the shift of the light. She continues to experiment with resin working its limitless applications.

Kristine graduated in 1989 from Oswego with a BFA in Fine Arts and Graphic design.

Cheers for 20 Years

In 1998, Gallery Forty-One opened as the only location featuring exclusively local art and crafts. The Gallery's original goal, to promote local art in the community and to give emerging artists a place to show their work, still holds true today some twenty years later.

Many rural communities are engaged in revitalization efforts to renew downtown areas and restore them to their former prominence as a center of community. Gallery Forty-One led that effort twenty years ago and today remains a focal point in the art community. Embracing the history of Owego, the Gallery logo is a brick on the façade of the building. When visiting look up at the front of our building, you will see the zig-zags and chain links of the logo incorporated into the facade of the building. Because the Gallery is operated as a cooperative it has become an “art family”. Currently the Gallery maintains about 25 artists in a dozen or so different mediums
